You have surely seen the picture of this chair and thought, why does it have a broken leg, what is the story behind it? And here I am to tell you, come with me!
The Broken Chair stands on only three legs. It is one of the most iconic works of art of the 20th century symbolising the campaign against landmines.
The Broken Chair is the work of sculptor Daniel Berset. It was created in 1997 for the NGO Handicap International. Made of 5.5 tonnes of wood and rising to a height of 12 metres, this impressive work of art has dominated Nations Square since 1997. Its message is simple: remember the victims of landmines, encourage your government to ban landmines, there are those who say that the purpose of it being in front of the United Nations in Geneva is a cry for peace so that there will be no more deaths and wars! Surely this is a must stop in Geneva!
Next to the three-legged chair, there is a place you must visit, that's right! Salle Centrale de la Madeleine where incredible concerts, festivals, shows and events take place! By the way, on the 26th and 27th of April there will be two unforgettable Jazz concerts that you won't want to miss! Click the button for more information
See you in Geneva
