As we well know, Switzerland is known for its cheese and chocolate, its stations, its banking sector, but there is much more to know about the Swiss culture. I am sure you will fall in love and want to visit this amazing place.
Switzerland is undoubtedly one of the best and most beautiful destinations to travel to.
1. The world's longest tunnel is 57 kilometers long. It is called the Gotthard Base Tunnel and runs from Switzerland to Italy under the Alps between the towns of Erstfeld in the north and Bodio in the south. It took 17 years to build and reaches a depth of 2,300 meters.
2. Switzerland only became part of the United Nations in 2002. But the most curious thing is that Geneva has had the Palais des Nations since 1937, located on Peace Street, which served as the first headquarters of the League of Nations until 1946. In 1966, it became the European Headquarters of the United Nations, but the country only joined the group 36 years later.
3. Switzerland has a square national flag. There are only two in the world like this, hers and the Vatican's.
4. Switzerland does not have a fixed president. As a semi-direct federal democratic republic, it has a seven-member council that rotates each year as federal president. Since 2011, the governing parties have been right and left. Federal legislative power lies in the two chambers of the Federal Assembly, the National Council and the Council of States.
5. And of course, a curiosity and a tip to finish, in Geneva besides being known for its natural beauties, is known for its great music festivals, and I know that on April 26 and 27 there will be two great Jazz events! And obviously I'm not going to miss it, I hope you will too.
See you in Geneva!
